It was on August 28, 1963, that Dr. King delivered an address in front of the Lincoln Memorial and before more than a quarter of a million people rallying for "Jobs and Freedom," that has come to be known as his "I Have a Dream" speech. Rev. King originally hadn't planned to speak about his dream for the future, something he'd spoken about earlier in a speech made in Chicago, Illinois, but he was inspired by the crowd and singer Mahalia Jackson, who called for him to "Tell them about your dream, Martin!
