i have a white german shepherd that is 5 months old. her ears stood up at 3 months, and by 4 that one was leaning too far.

her right ear is leaning over the OTHER way (points in towards the middle of her head). when she lays her ears back, this ear stands up like it is supposed to. its like she has no control over that ear, and it just stands up all the time.

has anyone ever experienced this before with a german shepherd or any other breed that has erect ears? i'm just not sure what to do! i feel like i need to tape it DOWN rather than up!

thanks for all your help.

German Shepherd's ears go up & down till they are done teething at around 7-8 months old (teething affects the muscles that hold the ears erect). This is perfectly normal with this breed.

Well my German Shepard had an ear that flopped half way down when she was a puppy. She had big radar ears and it looked like she had no control over them but she eventually grew into them and now they stand up erect when shes on alert or she lays them down when she wants. Your puppy will probably grow into them and learn how to use them one of these days. But the next time you take her into the vet you can ask them what they think just to be sure. Good luck

I have a Shepherd....I will try taping the floppy ear....could be weak cartilidge in the ear. I would say try researching it on the internet.
