For me (though it differs from state to state), there was a 20 question, multiple choice test, and then the practical, which was only about 10 minutes long.
The questions weren't that hard, but you had to know a lot of numbers, like how far away from a school bus to stop or far a way from a fire hydrant is the closest you are allowed to park. Also, know how fast to go if you are unsure of the speed limit. (This may not be an issue if the roads are well-marked. Out here, there aren't nearly enough speed limit signs and sometimes I just have to follow traffic... if there is any.)
Mostly, just study your driver's manual and make sure you know a variety of things. Memorize the numbers too! If you're well prepared, it's not that difficult, except for the whole part about getting nervous. I just barely passed my test and was nearly in tears because I didn't do better.
And make sure you know state laws, like whether or not passing on the right is legal in certain situations and whether or not you are allowed to go right on red. It really does depend, place to place.
Oh, yeah. When the instructor/test person get into the car, even if it's your own, make sure you lock the doors, adjust the mirrors (or just touch them if they're already fine) adjust your seat, etc. This way they know that you know to do those things before you go. And buckle up before you start the car. I'm not sure if they check those things on the test, but my drivers' ed teacher told us to do that first. Leave the radio off and don't fiddle with other dials like heat or air conditioning or defrost while you're driving if you can help it. Definitely make sure those things are done beforehand.
I know that's a lot, but really, don't worry. Just study and be calm during the test. It shouldn't be that big of a deal. Even if for some reason you don't pass, they will tell you (They SHOULD tell you, but if they don't, ask.) what you did wrong, and that way when you go to retake the test, you won't make the same mistakes. In all honesty, it's really not too difficult. I was almost sure I failed, but then I passed (I didn't even have to parallel park, although I did have to back into a parking space with no other cars around.)
You should be able to do just fine. Good luck!!

The written test, you might want to read the "what every driver must know" book, you can get it at secretary of state or where ever you are taking your test. For the actual driving I would find an open parking lot and try following the lines for the parking spaces so you can get better at judging the distances. bring some cones (trash cans work really good too) and practice paralle parking. That's the hardest part, a good point of advice though, always practice in the car you are going to take the test in because each car you drive is different (in terms of handling, braking, size and power).

you can get pamphlets from the dmv or if you have recently taken driver's ed, you should have materials from there to help you. study road signs, insurance info (i.e., how many points is it on your license if you pass a stopped school bus and other points info) depending on your state/county, you will have to do different things for the driving part, so just ask someone you know. also, if you're anything like me, make sure to practice 3-point turns before going to get your license (i flunked the first time i tried because of that).
also, make sure your car is in prime condition, they typically check to make sure your lights, turn signals, etc. work before they will even let you do the road test.
if you do flunk one part (driving or written), you can always come back the next day and do it again...plus if you go to the same dmv, you will only have to do the part you flunked the day before.

You need to pick up a test study booklet at your local dept. of motor vehicles. You need to know general rules of the road. The driving test itself requires you to park safely, use mirrors properly, pull into traffic prpoperly, etc. It slounds like you are going in cold with no prep. I recommend a driver's education class, which will also lower your insurance rates.

study and try parallel parking .Roads signs speed limits in city and on highway. The written is the easy one it is the road test they care more about. One thing dont turn music on make sure all this is off as it might not look well at it is one of the distractions of road driving no cells turn it off too.Wait till your examiner gets into the car then adjust mirrors .All that i am sure you know about other then that watch your speed and good luck

In NC they are only worried about if you know what year laws for drunk driving passed. As far as the driving test practice 3 point turns and parking both parrallel and straight in.

Go to your local Dept. of transpertation, where you will take the test, and ask for a "Drivers lerner manual" & take it home & study it. It will have all the info. you will need. Have fun & Good-Luck !!!
