We were already supporting Europe and Russia with weapons and money. But until Pearl Harbor the US citizen (and the US government) did not want to be involved in another war in Europe.

You Americans think the world cant do without you. Britain had already ended Germanys push for control of europe. Yes they got most of it but they had missed a hugely important bit, Great Britain. Without us Germany had accomplished very little and Hitler knew this. He always regarded Great Britain as the biggest threat to his government and on many occasions attempted to get us onside, all of which failed. I dont know how many Americans fought but 3,000,000 british fought alongside many in the RAF and Royal Navy. Yes the US Army played a major part but everything we got from you was paid for unlike the rest of the countries you helped. We had the biggest navy, invented the best technology and fought the war without a hidden agenda. The US's main reason for helping was to force Britain to give up its empire. Had Britain lost the battle of Britain i can assure you that the US would be a very different place because what would you of known about the Germans or the Japanese without the allies telling you and instructing you. Your army would of been obliterated without the help of the allies the same way the allies would of been obliterated without american help.
The most annoying thing is Americans think they did it all which is so far from the truth its unbelievable. If they had turned up when everyone else did would you be able to say the same thing, probably not, the Germans would of been a completely different enemy then to the ones you did fight and the same goes for the Japanese. No body in Europe doubts the American contribution and all are grateful we just hope you would shut up about it. You were paid for your help and i doubt you would of been as willing had the money not been put forward. Just remember that when you next try to remind a Brit how you saved our a$$es in WW2 because we paid for the help.
I dont think America would of gone into battle if they had not been attacked. They would of waited until the fighting had finished, found out who the winner was and declared war on them, when there military was shattered from the biggest war in history all in order to get what at the time America wanted most, something all major European nations once had and that an empire. Simple as that. Its a great tactic and im not slating the US for it as i think any country would of done the same given the chance but they didnt and as i said the world is grateful.

I heard someone on the History Channel say that if Japan started to attack more countries and territories in the far east, that we would likely have had no choice but to enter the war. BTW, I heard that in Japan, Pearl Harbor is often not mentioned in the Japanese textbooks.

Yes, FDR was desparate to get the US into war. The amazing thing is that he had actually committed acts of war against Germany, hoping for retaliation and thus a reason to go to war.
These acts included using US Navy vessels to escort British merchant ships far beyond US territorial waters, deep into the Atlantic. This is an overt act of war.
At the time, America was divided about getting involved in the war, and Congress would not have given FDR power to go to war, unless we were attacked.
Eventually, FDR would have provoked Germany or Japan enough to get us attacked.

There is a conspiracy theory that FDR knew that the Japanese were going to attack Pearl. But in order to get the country into war, he allowed it to happen. What we do know, is that w/o the U.S., the outcome would have been very different. I believe that at some point, the U.S. would have had to join the war.

They would have eventually. Hitler's vengeance weapons were moving towards that possibility. The V2 was a step or two away from intercontinental ballistic missiles that would have eventually have been fired on America from Germany. Hitler disliked the Americans for supporting England with supplies of material.

Eventually I believe America would have entered against Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. The incentive would've have been to protect and save Great Britain. It was the Pearl Harbor attack which pinched America awake from her isolationism.

No way they would just have sat back and watched britain be overun because of our size, but we have the best army in the world and no-one will ever surpass us. Navy seals hahaha. our marines and sas would show the usa up something shocking. there is only one fighting force on earth that may equal the brits and I believe that to be the Mossa in Israel. The us are just chicken and throw lots of men to their death while we care for ours. hey all you yanks we just paid the last payment this week on what you yanks charged us for the war , now dont start with me because I will put you down everytime. I hate you all for our lads dying for a war your gunslinger gun happy president started. All he wants is the oil and nothing else you greedy gas guzzlers.

Most likely not, they are isolationists, we may have done the same but unfortunately will relied on imports for food and industry materials. Unlike the Americans who could have sustained in isolation, without joining. Did you not notice that America was one of the only countries that came out of the war richer than they went in (the U.K has only just finished paying the debt from WW2 in December Trillions of pounds).I amazes me in films like Enigma where Americans are portrayed as the code crackers (one of the vital events of the fall of Hitlers army) who decoded the enigma machine when it was actually Englishman.

Before pearl harbor we already were trading shots with the German U-boats with several incidents resulting in the torpedoing of the USS LEARY and the sinking of USS REUBEN JAMES. So it was only a matter of time before we would have gone to war with Germany.
