ok so i was playing ultimate frisbee, and i dove for a frisbee and rolled on the ground. I actually caught it, but some how i managed to knee myself in the face, and i hit my front teeth pretty hard. Originally my 2 top ones hurt alot, but now it's just the left one. It's been 2 days and it still feels pretty weird and im not sure what to do.. what are some signs that the tooth is dead or is gonna fall out? it's not really that loose, but it feels really weird if i push back and forth on it. if it is dead, what's going to happen? what are my options?

Thanks for any help

also i hit my head pretty hard with my knee, to the point where i remember going into the roll then a few minutes after the roll i remember standing in the field holding my mouth. i matched the cut on my knee to the tooth it hit the hardest and it looks like most of the force was put into the bottom tip of the tooth...idk if that changes anything...

Also, what are the symptoms of a dead tooth?

Someone stated a tooth cannot be alive nor dead. This is false. Teeth have a core of blood vessels and nerves at their center, the living tissue within the tooth is called the pulp.

When the pulp of the tooth is injured or damaged (which is often felt), then the blood vessels can die, sometimes causing the tooth to change in color, due to lack of blood supply and other factors.

An injury can infect the pulp of the tooth and could (but may not) require the tooth to have a root canal. Your tooth needs a good blood supply to allow it to properly heal and a dentist can best determine the type of blood supply available to your tooth.

If you do not have irreversible pulp damage, then it's possible your tooth can be splinted for a short period of time, to allow the tooth to solidly reconnect and stablize in place and to help prevent further possible damage to the tooth. The dentist office will take an xray to make sure there is no infection and no roots have broken. The dentist has methods available to help heal fractures, should a tooth be fractured.

A fracture, broken root, under the gumline, cannot be seen outside of an x-ray, that is why it is important to have the x-ray, to determine the extent of injury. A tooth can look normal even when fractured. I would also recommend not pushing on it until you visit the dentist.

Other than the tooth discoloring, a person can experience increased sensitivity. Signs of an infection can include fever, increased pain, swelling, or drainage from the injured area. When some people require a root canal, they often experience pain while chewing (pressure causes pain), sensistivity to cold or hot foods and liquids, and sensitivity to air - like cold air. People experience, some, all, or none of the symptoms associated with a dying tooth. Each person is different. But for an injured tooth, you should consult with your dentist ASAP, to allow yourself the greatest possible treatment options.

I have seen few people coming to our office with this kind of problem, usually a result of an injury! Most of the time they have severed the nerve inside the tooth and either a root canal was performed or the loose tooth was bonded to the one next to it,but it doesn't look nice.I recommend to go and see a dentist right a way, after they take an x-ray it will be clear what is the damage and what your options are,but really go now, don't wait to see how your tooth feels in a couple of days!!!Hope I helped a little!

I believe you have loosened and pushed the tooth back. It's best if you go see a dentist that way they can take x-rays and see for sure what happened inside.
