1. People didn't come from monkeys - we share a common ancestor. More recently, we share a common ancestor with the apes.

2. Lots of Americans come from Europeans. Why are there still Europeans?

I don`t think people came from monkeys. They once looked like them, but they were not a real one (like nowadays monkeys).

It's based on traits on what started out as a few, they reproduced, and eventually humans came out of it. Monkeys still exist because they didn't have whatever trait that small pool of monkeys had.

Because there are different evolutionary paths for different areas. In some places monkeys had to evolve into humans and in other places they didn't.

Better answer: we didn't evolve from modern monkeys, we evolved from some primitive monkey-like thing. That primitive monkey-like thing evolved two different ways: into us and into modern monkeys. As environments dictated.
