I have highlighted my hair 3 times at a salon. The color she gave me was red mixed with blonde so on my dark brown hair, it really looked nice and lightened up my face. The color was more red and not very bright. This all happened about 2 years ago and I have cut my hair so the color is back to my natural healthy dark brown. I REALLY want to get BLONDE highlights at the salon. But i dont know if its going to look horrible or if it will ruen my hair. I want to have lots of strands of blonde so it almost looks like a girl who has natural blonde hair with brown lowlights. You know what i mean? well thats what i have been wanting and i just dont know if it will ruen my hair or what i should do. I have light to medium skin tone with bright green eyes. Would this be safe and look good? Thanks for your help!

i think you should try going with a light brown instead. even though your really set on going blonde a lighhter brown will probably look better. because if you add too much blonde you mihgt end up looking like you dyed your hair blonde and you have dark roots. so try light brown highlights first. and if your not interested in that go to hairfinder.com and research your question there. it will definatley help you.

There are multiple ways to lighten your hair. You can go in and highlight the crap out of it. You will always have dark new growth showing through.
You can high light your hair and put a tint in between the foils. After a period of time you will get too light and need high lights, low lights and a retouch. Doing this type of service can get quite costly and needs to be touched up about every four weeks. You do not want to go to long between services or it can cost you more. Color doesn't lighten as well when it becomes grown out from the scalp more than 1/4 of an inch.
As far as damage, it all depends on who does your hair and what they use.
I have been doing both of these services to my hair for many years depending on the look that I want that month.

I have dark brown hair with medium blonde highlights. I LOVE IT. Everyone loves it. Everyone tells me to NEVER go back to plain dark brown. I also have a medium skin tone with bright green eyes. I always get asked if I have green contacts (and I don't)...so your color is about the same as mine so GO FOR IT!!! I have to condition my hair alot....once a week with a deep conditioner and use a good daily conditioner. My hair is also naturally curly and I roll it everyday with large rollers to relax the curl and sometimes use a flat iron....so it is naturally weaker than most hair types. You should be fine if you take care of your hair and find a good hair stylist.

it should look fine and if your hair is healthy it won't ruin it. It's not colored now right? Just your natural color? Just tell the salon what you want and they can do it and since it's blond if you don't like it just cover it with your natural color agian, it's an easy fix. Good luck

You should do it! It will look good just make sure the stylist know what there doing, and they don't break your hair off. If it's natural it will lift good and not damage to much, just take care of it(get trims every 2 months and conditioning treatments) so it looks healthy and feels healthy!

yes, that would look fine. i have dark brown hair with blonde highlights throughout my bangs & some chunky highlights in my hair.
