he says he's in love with me even if he's aware that i'm with somebody else. He keeps insisting and i just listen, but last x-mas he got a diamond ring for me, and i do not want to lead him on any further. Problem is he is one of those sensitive, depressive persons, and i feel as if my silence led him on. How can i tell it to him gently? (Btw, i'm not used to sugar-coat things, not me).

Honety is the best policy. Just tell him that you do not want a relationship with him and let him know that you would like to be his friend and nothing more. it may even be better for him if you cut all ties with him alltogether

Don't sugar coat it...don't use ugly words but be straight with him. People like that will tend to take ANY break you give them as a strand of hope to hold on to. Word it so there are no doubts about how you feel, and apologize from the beginning if his feelings get hurt but let him know that you feel by not saying anything you are doing him a disservice.

Tact is a skill it took me a while to learn, but I've never been a fan of sugar-coating either.

Good luck.

If you're not used to sugar-coating things, then don't. Knowing you, he'd feel like a moron. Just tell him plain and simple, you don't want to go any further than friends. You could also mention that you're with someone else and plan on being faithful to them. If he really loves you, he'll respect what you have to say.

Uh, just sit him down and talk to him about the situation. But, if you fee ltaht you might be threatened by him, do this in a public place, or a place where you can get awat from him if you need to.

Ewww . . . one of THOSE guys. Just tell him honestly that this relationship isn't doing it for you and you don't want to lead him on anymore. Be firm, but gentle.
