Every year Billions are spent of weapons and the military. This is true of all countries, and although I agree with having a good defense I do think too much is spent on war. (Obviously this wouldn't be a problem if we didn't have terrorists etc)

My point is this. If we spent that money on other things we could have achieved so much more by now. I think we could have started to colonise space, cured more diseases, and stopped homelessness.

So this is my question:

If we had used the money elsewhere, what do you think we could have acomplished? (if anything)

I hate to point out the obvious, but it appears I must.
Without spending as much on the military, we would not have a country of our own to accomplish anything with. Some enemy, (most likely the Soviet Union) would have conquered us.

Playing nice doesn't work. There have always been evil people in the world, and there always will be. It is part of being a human being. We must have a powerful military to protect us, it is essential.

If you want to get rid of wastefull spending to use our money better, get rid of all the social programs. They serve no purpose but to get politicians elected. They help nobody. Imagine what we could have accomplished if we did not have 30%+ of our incomes stolen.
