very very true!!! i am adding this for those that i KNOW will say something about things not necessarily "found" in Scriptures:
Catholic tradition period – all Rcc beliefs can be found in the bible, some plainly others indirectly indicated. Scripture itself points out an authoritative church & tradition. St Paul points out in his second letter to the Thess – stand firm & hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or letter. Here are some scriptures to check out 2 Thess 2:15, 1 Cor 11:2, 2 Thess 3:6, 2 Tim 1:13-14 & 2:2. When the first Christians had disagreements they didn’t open their bibles – they didn’t exist – they held councils and held binding decrees – these councils were those who knew more then the others and they came to an agreement/understanding and thus made a binding decree (acts 15:1-29). The very books of the bible were determined by the Church (Rcc) and didn’t even happen until the 4th century – centuries of oral tradition. Without their determination and will to listen to the Holy Spirit, sent by God to inspire them there would be no bible.

I have been asking that same question for a long time (here and in the real world).

If people would only put in HALF the research into finding the truth about the Catholic Church that they do into finding lies we wouldn't have this problem.

I think it was Archbishop Fulton Sheen that said, "There are not over a 100 people in the U.S. that hate the Catholic Church, there are millions however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church"

Keep teaching the truth, I will right there with you. If you need help, let me know.

** EDIT to the person above me**

There is not one Catholic Doctrine that goes against the teaching of Jesus Christ.

I am glad I converted to Catholicism.

I am always seeking knowledge.

I found this info online as 'additional readings" :

Protestants being thus impious enough to make liars of Jesus Christ, of the Holy Ghost, and of the Apostles, need we wonder if they continually slander Catholics, telling and believing worse absurdities about them than the heathens did? What is more absurd than to preach that Catholics worship stocks and stones for gods; set up pictures of Jesus Christ, of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and other saints, to pray to them, and put their confidence in them; that they adore a god of bread and wine; that their sins are forgiven by the priest, without repentance and amendment of life; that the pope or any other person can give leave to commit sin, or that for a sum of money the forgiveness of sins can be obtained ? To these and similar absurdities and slanders, we simply answer: "Cursed is he who believes in such absurdities and falsehoods, with which Protestants impiously charge the children of the Catholic Church. All those grievous transgressions are another source of their reprobation."

"But what faith can we learn from these false teachers when, in consequence of separating from the Church, they have no rule of faith? ... How often Calvin changed his opinions! And, during his life, Luther was constantly contradicting himself: on the single article of the Eucharist, he fell into thirty-three contradictions! A single contradiction is enough to show that they did not have the Spirit of God. "He cannot deny Himself" (II Timothy 2:13). In a word, take away the authority of the Church, and neither Divine Revelation nor natural reason itself is of any use, for each of them may be interpreted by every individual according to his own caprice ... Do they not see that from this accursed liberty of conscience has arisen the immense variety of heretical and atheistic sects? ... I repeat: if you take away obedience to the Church, there is no error which will not be embraced.

Learning the actual teachings has brought me to the Church. I will be confirmed on Easter Sunday this year. Praise Jesus. I am convinced that any Christian who knows what the Church really teaches, and just as importantly, why they teach it; will not be able to stay Protestant. If, that is, they are willing to be honest about what they find.

I am seeing from some of these other answers that people are using the very misinformation spoken of in the original question. Get the facts, not the fundamentalist bias. That is not to say that there is no good within fundamentalism, there is, but the Catholic Church is the fullness of the faith.

I think Catholic bashers mainly fall into two groups.

1) Those who do not know what they are talking about. We Catholics do not worship the Pope, for example.

2) Those who purposely twist Catholic doctrine and then put it down. Let us be honest, this is very common. Different ethnic groups and political parties do this all the time.

I agree that there are some problems with the Catholic church. I have found that people who know about Catholicism and the different beliefs and practices of various Christian denominations are respectful about our differences.

Whoa there, I am Catholic and I can say that you are very wrong as we do not worship Mary as this would be idolatry and the Catholic church would never sanction this, also the Rosary is a devotion and not binding on any Catholic to recite.

I think that the reason is that people are afraid. They are afraid to study what the Catholic Church really teaches because...well, She might just be right! You bring up a good point though. People are very quick to jump to conclusions and make rash judgements without being sufficiently informed first. I think that part of the problem is that the internet culture is affecting people's capacity to discern what is right from what is not. Much truth is out there on the internet, but there is also much error. Left to our own resources, we would quickly drown in the almost infinite number of opinions and beliefs that are being proposed for us to adhere to. Fortunately, in the Catholic Church, we have the authentic teaching Magisterium to keep us on the right track! Thanks be to Our Lord for the gift of His Church!

Been there done that. I went through 12 year of catholic school and catechism. Even after all that I couldn't believe it was right. Purgatory does not exist. Catholic priests cannot forgive you your sins - only God can. I do not worship Mary, only God. Catholisism is based on select scriptures not the bible. I didn't see a whole bible until I left catholic school. We had gospels.

He saves us from the penalty of sin (a million), the flexibility of sin (2) and the guy of sin, the self (3) in that order. The scripture speaks this type on many events. 1st John is relatively instructive. observe how the apostle speaks of "sons and daughters, youthful men, and fathers." there's a three section distinction in adulthood being illustrated. sure, you're authentic. Jesus (the son) saves us from the wrath of God (the father). it is so God would desire to be the two "the in simple terms and the justifier," that's, the two merciful and in simple terms. Yours in Christ, Nick

I have studied the Roman catholic teaching. Even though most RC's I know are great, wonderful people they have been mislead by Rome. They have taken man's traditions over bible/God's word. This is WRONG!
Here are just a few examples;
Mary was sinless -No where in bible is this stated. Mary said herself she needed a savior. Savior from what?

Mary didn't die she was taken up to heaven-no where in bible again. If she was sinless she of course couldn't die. Sin caused death.

Mary was a virgin her entire life-this is just silly. Sex in marriage is not a sin. Bible states the Jesus was her first born not her Only born son. Bible even states Jesus's brothers and sister(s). No they weren't cousins-this is just silly.

Mary-praying toher. yes, asking her to pray for you is a form of worship. "We have one mediator to God and that is Jesus the Christ"-bible

Pope-calling him holy father. This is actually forbidden. concerning our teachers, "call no man father for we have one father in heaven" Almost like the RC church was for seen.

Purgatory-not biblical. What sin did Jesus not die for?
"To be absent from the body is to be present with the lord' "today you will be with me in paradise" no purgatory.
There's so much more.....
