I've heard good things about Windows 2000, if you decide to get XP get XP pro since this seems a little more stable to me than XP home. I know it can be pricey but you can get a good deal at softwareking.com.
But I don't see a reason to change it if your 2000 is fine. I won't change to Vista until a year or 2 after it comes out if I do decide to change at all. From the prelims on Vista it's gonna have some issues early on.

of course upgrade to windows xp. By now a lot of the security bugs have been worked out. Also google the sites where they sell the xp OEM. It is now legal, that they can sell programs that are OEM or say they are from a bundle as they are WAY cheaper. Than to try to buy one from the store in a box. All Legal too. Bill Gates lost that lawsuit for the benefit of us no

For the ones that tell you to upgrade to Vista. Your computer must have certain requirements to be able to fully use Vista. So do not buy till you check first. The XP should be no problem though.

Windows XP is best.............. if I remember correctly, Windows2000 was largely made to replace WINDOWS NT4 in offices, and omits a few things like Disk maintenance tools....... while Windows XP is now pretty much fully patched now it's been out for several years, and Windows Vista is lined up to replace it.

Forget the suggestions of Windows 98SE, as that's no longer supported by Microsoft + the makers of the essential ZONEALARM firewall software (and Zonealarm Internet Security Suite) also dropped supporting Windows '98

The bad stories about windows XP have been fixed. There are constantly patches being created to update windows XP.

But you might as well wait it out. The Windows Vista is due to come out this year!

Windows XP is by far the best OS I’ve used since Windows 95. I have owned computers which had Windows 95, 98 and ME; and XP surpasses in all aspects in compassion to its predecessors

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If your computer is working fine now, there is no need for you to upgrade. I am using Windows XP and it works very well. It all depends on what you want to do.
