Hey June,

If your nephew is not yet of age, that may be difficult. Do you know if you have open or closed adoptions where you live? You need to find that out first. Search in YAHOO!, for "Adoption Law " , where is your city, town, state, province, country. In the USA, the State laws determine if it is open or closed.

After that, if it is open, you should be able to Search in YAHOO! for "Adoption Vital Record " or "Adoption Record " and find how to obtain the adoption decree, which tells who adopted your nephew. IF it is Closed, you will need to register and hope that he seeks you by registering.

How old was he when he was adopted? Does he know his birth name? You could write a letter to the Editor where you suspect he is living. This is a shot in the dark.

Here are some Adoption sites, but do the searches mentioned above!

you have to find out if they changed his first name too. if they did your chances are less. check to see if your state has open adoption records. if the natural parent is still alive, you can get unidentifying information, this may tell you what state he is in. also try adoption forum in your area. it is a free service. they may give you other ideas. also the amended birth certificate can tell you. much of this information depends on how old the nephew is. good luck from an adoptee.

It may take some time. Sign up for the adoption sites and, if he was told that he was adopted, chances are good that he'll be curious enough to search those same sites.

Opinions vary as to whether adopted children should be contacted by their biological families, even if there are medical issues that need to be brought to light. I wish your family the best of luck.
