I'm a guy, with light brown hair which is VERY thick and is about shoulder-length, and really stands out when I use a blowdryer. I have to straighten it just for it to lay down, and get rid of that "poofy" look. My hair flips on one side also, and not on the other when dried naturally. My mom suggests it should be done in layers, and she's thinking about setting up an appointment, though she's waiting for the final verdict from me. I trust my mom's hairdresser completely, my mom gets amazing layered looks from her. Though with my hair, I don't have any idea on what to do! Should I get layers? Would it look better? How many should I get? Once done, how can I make the layers stand out in the morning when I get out of the shower?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Well, if you don't want layers at all....don't use a blow dryer, and it may not "boof" out so big....let it air dry.....it's probably naturally wavy or curly, and you need to let it air dry....and if there is still poofyness....use a "texture cream"...not a "gel"...which makes it even curlier, but a "creme" ( found at any drugstore) or a "shining serum" that helps smoothe any remaining fuzziness, or tame "big" hair. put it in your hands, rub them together to evenly distribute through the hair....and rake it through your hair.If you have to blow dry, so you don't freeze to death, do this process on your blow dried hair. I'm a hairstylist by the way, and I have naturally curly, wavy hair, and don't use a blow dryer for the same reason. If it's too big with the curls taht probable will show up after air dryong, then try some layering...but even with layers, you'll still get a "huge look" from blow drying due to thick hair you've been blessed with, and probably alot of natural body.so layers actually might make things worse....especially with the blowdrying...people sometimes get layers to ADD fullness.... you'll be releasing the heaviness from your hair if you cut length off and layer it ...resulting in that hair springing up even fuller........you'd have to go with pretty short layer to have a slimmer look.....without blowdrying.and defitnately if you need to blow dry....And besides. I loved the 80's "big hair" rock n roll hair....but it is not in style right now at least. So try some layers that are short if you decide to get layers and you may like the change anyways.....

oh yeah, oh yeah, get layers, if you trust your hairdresser and you like the way she does your mom's hair. It's in style... go for it.

You should, their is only one way to find out how it will look on you. And maybe you can try searching guy hairstyles on Yahoo or something, and pick one from there.
