Isaiah’s words were fulfilled 2,500 years ago. However, the words recorded at Isaiah 47:8 are quoted in the book of Revelation and given a future application. There the Bible foretells the end of the harlotlike organization called “Babylon the Great”—the world empire of false religion. (Revelation 16:19) The designation “Babylon” for the false religions of the world is appropriate, since it was in ancient Babylon that false religion got its start. From there it spread to the four corners of the earth. (Genesis 11:1-9) Religious doctrines that originated in Babylon, such as the immortality of the soul, hellfire, and the worship of triune gods, are shared by virtually all religions.

Babylon comes from the prime root, babel, which simply means "confusion".
You are referring to Rev 17:5 -"Mystery, Babylon the great, the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth".
If you back up to verse 1 of the 17th chapter, you will note that it is a great religious system and that the 5th verse is the writing on the very head of that beast.
The Bible says that in the end times, The Antichrist will appear first, at the 6th trump - thats BEFORE the 7th trump, when Christ Himself returns. Unfortunately, the Bible states that when the Antichrist comes, he will come pretending, and disguised as Christ - He will even sit on Mt. Zion stating that he is, in fact, Christ returned - he's the fake Christ. Since most church systems do not teach his biblical fact which is all but cemented in the original manuscripts, most Christians will be deceived, thinking it is the real Christ, lots of them will believe he is here to rapture them - but he's not - he's here deceiving those who have not studied the scripture so that they may escape this hour.
So, what the Bible says is that the mass majority of the world will "whore" after him, thinking he's Jesus. Thats not me being profane, thats God's word, not mine. Anyway, that is why the name is given - because people will sure be confused, and the description written on her forehead is accurate too, because they are a bunch of harlots who are whoring after the wrong Christ.
This is Biblical - I am in no way trying to offend anyone.
If you are still in the flesh, whoever comes doing miracles, etc. is the Antichrist, not the real Christ. When the REAL Christ returns, we will all be changed at once into spiritual bodies - so, again, if you are in the flesh, its simply not the Christ.

And have been for some millennia now. Ever since, "Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD. And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar" (Genesis 10:8-9). His "kingdom," the first military empire, used both weapons and religion to maintain the political power. Thus, he naturally needed a false religion. The "mystery" of Babylon is how many humans have fallen for what so clearly is a lie.
