He doesn't have all the qualities I'm looking for in a man but he is really a great guy and I don't want to hurt him. I just want him to be my lover but he recently told me he has fallen in love with me and I can't reciprocate. I don't want to lead him on either. Any ideas?

You can't continue to use him as a lover because that's exactly what you would be doing.
Say you can't reciprocate his feelings of love for you, that he is a great guy but not exactly what you are looking for. In your heart of hearts that you cannot be dishonest, as it would be unfair to him.
Then have one last night of sex together if he wants to.

There isn't any way to soften the blow. If you're just looking for a lover - tell you aren't looking for a committed relationship at this time. Or be honest and tell him that while he is a really great guy, you just don't see a future for the two of you. Don't let the relationship continue like it is, he'll be more hurt the longer it goes on.

tell him the truth. that you are not inlove with him. and that you want to move on and not waste his time. tell him i am sorry but i just dont have the chemistry for you and it's not fair to me to stay and for you. you need to find someone that has equal chemistry.

tell him you just don't feel the same as him and it cant go no further then what it already is. just tell him the truth thats all you can do.
