Only give her dry food!! Cats should only have Wet food as a treat! She is training you! She will eat when she get hungry enough! Go to the pet most of them will give you samples of food. My cat was very picky too! We took the samples and put out 5 bowls and taped the wrapper to the bottem. When the dish was emty we knew which one she liked!!

Hope this helps

you need to wean a cat on certain foods. If a cat is hungry enough, they will eat! Trust me! Dry foods would be better in the long run as wet foods can cause tooth decay plus dry foods are carefully balanced by manufacturers (make sure you give a good quality brand, not the supermarket or advert type brands) Something like Iams. Though Iams have been tested on cats, and thisis a moral/ethical issue, nevertheless, a good quality food. Hills as well. Dry foods also have good fibre content, which can only be good. Chicken, tuna maybe good for a treat, but does not provide all the necessary nutrients- think of it as a human being- you cannot supply on chicken alone! You need fibre, vitamins from your fruit and veg, etc.Good luck!

I have 3 cat's and they are all different. I used to give them both wet & dry food but the vet advised me that it is better for there teeth to put them on a dry diet. Now if i try to give them anything wet they won't look at it. I have 6 different bags of food and i just give them a different type everyday that way they don't get fed up.
Hope this helps x

This is a very good question, I have the exact same problem, what they like one day they won't touch the next. I hope that someone answers with a good answer to help us both. For all those people though who say don't pander to them and they will eat when they are hungry - obviously don't own any cats or have anything to do with cats, cause then they would know that it is impossible to ignore a cat that is meowing at you for some good food and attention.

Many cats like dry food for the taste; it can be like candy for them. But it doesn't provide very good nutrition, being mainly composed of carbs and plant proteins that cats can't digest properly. So if she goes on a dry food kick she's likely to overeat because the dry food isn't meeting her nutritional needs. It's not uncommon for cats who eat a lot of dry food to be both obese and malnorished at the same time!

Hi Sammy 39,
My cat is the same I did try all types of methods to encourage to eat, from which of none-them appeared to work. I then read in book about cats eating habits and it appears that they are prepared to strafe rather than eat what they don't like. After nearly ten years of her fussy behaviour I managed to find some felix treats she adores I mix these in with her food and she is non-the wiser. If you decide to try this method it may take time to find out what she reaaly likes although costy it is worth the time and effort good luck.

I was going to say variety, but you got there already.

My cat finds it hard to eat alone; when I think she's gone off her food, it's just that she wants some company at the food bowl (ie me, I have to hang out while she eats).

Also, when she forgets how good her food is, I have to remind her by hand-feeding a couple of mouthfuls. That usually gets her going again.

Yes, this is a special-needs cat, but I hope it helps.

If she is hungry she will eat what is there eventually. My cat used to be picky on the wet food i gave her but if i left it long enough she would eat it as she relised it was that or nothing.

chop and change her wet food and if she is very fussy try Royal Canin for fussy eaters, I've never known a cat to turn it down and its a great complete high quality cat food.

she wont need anything else!
