I am in the National Guard and I went once and I have 4 years left on my contract. I am committed to never returning to Iraq in my life.

No, don't feel bad. I did two tours and don't want to go back either. I'm on IRR for the next two years and am scheming on how I can avoid a call up, lol. I'm proud of my service, I'm proud of my fellow service members, but the time I spent over there really messed me up. Thankfully, I've learned from those experiences and have become a better person all around, but I have no desire to go back, especially since I don't agree with how things are being run.

You're entitled to your opinion. In addition to being a servicemember, you are a tax payer and a human being.

God bless you and thanks for coming home!

Not many people want to go back once they been, some volunteer... but when you sign up for any kind of service you have to expect to sooner or later be called up for overseas duties that may or may not include Iraq.. Noone blames you for not wanting to go back...My husband retired this year from the army... he went to iraq 4 times korea 2 times somalia once Germany and France... and my oldest Son is currently in Iraq he's an officer in the Army... God bless the troops and thank you very much for the service you guys and gals do for us...

I don't think you should feel badly at all. A lot of men and women feel as you do, my husband is in the Army and does not want to go back to Iraq. But if he must go, he is prepared. Sadly, the chances are you might go back again. I don't know what you can do to avoid going if your unit is called to duty. But don't feel bad for not WANTING to go. You are human, you have feelings, and whatever they are, no one can change the way you feel. Good luck to you and i hope you do not have to go again.

No. You sure as hell aren't the first one whose felt that way. If you have to return and you don't, that wouldn't look too good on your part. That's what you signed up for, what you trained for and if you thought you'd never get sent to Iraq, you thought wrong. If you had to go back, and you did, that would look great on your part. You just proved it to yourself you can do what you didn't think you could.

IMO I think you should feel bad. There are guys that have gone 4 times already and wives that had to say goodbye 4 times. Some of them didn't even come back, you are no different than them. I know my husband has to go @ least 2 more times in this enlistment and I/he have no problem with it because we know that he is helping out as much as he can. Who else is going to do it? The drunk college kid back home?? No. I'm not trying to be a b*tch to you, but none of them want to go back EVER, and none of them should have, but it's not up to you.

No, you should not feel the least bit bad. I'm a Viet Nam vet and I understand completely. This "war" in Iraq is totally useless brought about by a totally incompetent president and administration. Brings back memories of the 1960's and 70's protest chant of "hell no we won't go'. One tour should be all that is required of anyone.

Why should you feel bad? I'm sure Baghdad is not very high on any ones choice of assignments. But you made the commitment knowing we were at war, so if you have to go, you have to go. My niece will be there in May.

Well, I planned on making a career out of the Army but 14 months in Vietnam changed my mind about that, so I know what you're talking about.

Yes, you have fours left. That means that you still have a four year commitment left.

Yes, going twice would suck. But you are a soldier.

Do your duty.
