Right now im a sophmore in college studying Criminal Justice.

I do not go to a really well known univeristy....a Division II school in the city of Detroit....

I hope to someday become a police officer then a detective.

I was looking at ways to get experience right out of college right away, so I looked at the Navy and noticed they had careers as Law Enforcement Officals for the Navy.

I was wondering if I go after I earn a degree, will I be ranked as a officer? or no because I did not attend the Navy Acad.

Im just looking to maybe join for a bit, to get some experience as an Police officer there, to help on a resume....another question...can you join for as long as you want, then drop out? or are you stuck in once you signed the contract??

Or this is a not a good idea? Still got 2 years left, just trying to think it all out...

If you want to be an officer in the Navy, a few things...
1. You'll have to go through Officer Candidate School in order to become an officer...not necessarily the Naval Academy.
2.Make sure your grades in school are in top shape. You aren't eligible for OCS if your gradepoint average (college+highschool) isnt at least 3.0 or better.
3. Expect at least a 5 year haul.
4. No admittance to the Navy if you use, or used an inhaler for asthma.
5. Make sure your record is squeaky clean. I think it's the NSA that will do an in-depth evaluation of you. They can do anything from checking your criminal record, to interviewing old friends and teachers from high school.
6. Expect to have a psychiatric evaluation done.

The navy can be a very rewarding experience. My brother went in somewhat of a punk-kid, and came out with a new understanding and appreciation for things. If you think it's for you and you want an early start, then look into an ROTC program in your area and see what they have to offer. GOOD LUCK!

EDIT: By the way...if yo do join up, make sure that you get everything in writing that they may promise you. In your contract paperwork, there is usually a space where you can add in anything omitted from the contract. The recruiters will tell you not to write anything, and get pissed if you do, but if they tell you you'll be getting something, and you dont see it on the contract, write it in! A buddy of mine was promised that he would be admitted to BUDS for SEAL training, and after enlisting, they didnt want to let him in. He presented his contract where he had witten in that he had the option of discharge if not admitted to BUDS...served as a seal for about 9 years because of this.

...Graduate from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Or, enlist as an Officer candidate... (make sure you have a College degree from an accreted Colg. or University)... The Navy Recruiter can give you all the information... Then too, enlist as an E-1, Seaman Recruit... Serve in the Navy for years and years and when you become a Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9)...apply to become a W-1, Warrant Officer... The Warrant Officers grade system goes up to W-4 ("comparable" to a Navy Captain)

You can become an Ensign (officer) IF you graduate college and just apply to the Navy. As far as getting the desired education with the Navy, sometimes the Navy has their own ideas, like making an engineer, Ensign in charge of the commisary.
