A great man of science wrongly villified by ignorant bigots who are too brainless to know that evolutionary theories were being proposed a century before Darwin was even born.

P.S. He's buried in an abbey-just to rub salt in the Christian wounds.

I like the way that they're different sizes, easier to keep track of and the £5 notes are just cute. When I was first over here though, I kept getting confused between tenners and twenties. For some strange reason, my brain decided that £10s were £20s, which meant I often had less in my wallet than I thought.

Fortunately that's long since straightened out.

What's curious to me though is how the U.S. 25cent piece vs the UK 20p changes the way people handle and think about small amounts of money. Too subtle to make much of, but I'm sure someone's written a doctoral thesis on it. ;-)

BuddyL: Great demonstration of American ignorance, sweetheart. For £10 you would get about $17. Check your exchange rate.

I think it's admirable that the UK has honored the achievements of Charles Darwin in such a way.

I always thought it was great that our currency had great thinkers on the back, it is a proud heritage and includes Newton and Babbage from memory?

It's fine if you want to keep it in the UK. But here in America, nobody wants a piece of paper that weighs ten pounds! Besides, our computers don't even have the right key to print that. So we have to settle for $$ instead. Besides, 10 pounds would give us less than 10 dollars, so we'll take Canadian if you have that. At least we know what that's worth.
