The ones who lived in Central America and South America are the Mayans and the Incans, while the "American Indians" are of different backgrounds. Their basis for living was different than the other two. These Native Americans were minimalists and chose to maximize the resources given the them by the land. Teepees were just another part of the animal, usually Buffalo or Bison, that they chose to slaughter for their own well-being. The Incans and Mayans, on the other hand, built temples and monuments to honor their gods. They believed they would prosper based on how the gods felt about them.

depending on climate they made their homes the most convient that they could. Those with teepees are extremely mobile and could move and follow the herds of bison. There were also mound builders in the Mid west that are believed to be linked to the Mayans in traditions and religion and many believe they may be the Mayans or decendants. I am going to assume that you are NOT trying to insult anyone with this question and just have a thirst for knowledge. To resort to "my indians are better than your indians" as means to put down others is foolish and petty.

Yes, Mayans had aqueducts even more advanced than any technology in Europe. I would say that it's because Indians in North America stayed as nomads because of the unstable climate. In Central America the climate is always about the same.

I think (and I could be wrong) that the Indians that built the pyramids were Inca and the Inca are from South America not North. This may not be correct but that is what I think.

i'm going to have to guess that it could do with the fact that the ones in the north were not forced to live in one place since the north american continent is so far reaching?
maybe it has to do with their following the herds for food? and they didn't settle down agriculturally early as the ones in the south?
i'm just trying to logically guess here.
maybe there were more tribes up here that it was more difficult to create a larger society to localize knowledge....
i'm thinking now that it has to do with localizing knowledge somehow.
