I would suggest you seek professional help from a nutritionist or your doctor. I commend you for getting yourself and your family on the right track...

Your best bet may be to get the Beach Body workout program. There are several key things in there that help with this sort of thing:

(1) A chart that shows how much you need to eat so your body does not go into starvation mode when you are dieting
(2) A complete body makeover section that will show what foods and what exercises to do to help take the weight off where needed in stages
(3) A lot of good information about the type of diet and nutrition to eat

I have found that the Atkins and South Beach diets are very much in line with what is given in that program as well and can be used for recipie ideas.

And also a few things to do:
(1) No caffine
(2) Drink only 2% or whole milk. Do NOT drink skim milk.
(3) Get 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night
(4) Take Vitamin B-complex, C, D, K, iron, calcium and zinc supplements every day
(5) Drink at least one glass of water a day
(6) Learn some stress reduction meditation exercises
