There should be no extra dollar if I'm right. The bell boy gets 5 dollars to give back to the three men. The bell boy keeps 2 for himself, so that should leave 3 dollars to give to the men. If the men are getting back 1 dollar each, then that amount is exactly enough to distribute evenly among the three of them.

There is no missing dollar at all
10*3 = 30
30-25=5
5-2=3
3/3=1

1*3=3
3+2=5
5+25=30
30/3=10

They each paid $9, for total of 27. $25 room + $2 in bellboy's pocket = $27

No missing dollar

$2. is already a part of the $27. that they paid ($25. for the room and $2. for the tip), then they each get a dollar back. That makes the $30.

Nothing is lost.

If the room costs $25 - you need to divide that by 3. It comes out to be $8.33333333..... Two men will pay $8.33 and one will pay $8.34. So simple math is 8.33 + 8.33 + 8.34 = 25.00 Now the bell boy gives each man back $1 so that will be $3 + $25 (what they paid for a room) = $28.00. The bell boy who has helped himself to a tip of $2 in his pocket. $2 + $28 = $30.00

there is no extra dollar your math is wrong....

three men x 10 = 30
$5 overcharge
$5-$2 that the bell boy put in his pocket so three dollars left
one dollar for each man sharing the room.

there is never a dollar missing.. never..

room(25) + bell boy(2) + dollar returned each(1x3) = 30

paid: 9 each equivalent to 27.. this 27 is for the room(25) and bell boy(2).. its already inclusive of d 2 bucks.. need not add in another 2 bucks.. its all in the reading..

Dear Honey
There has never been an extra dollar and there are 30 dollars and the amount remains such. By explaining you where the supposedly missing dollar has gone I believe many answerers have made clearly the point. I used to put the same riddle long time back.. but we must get to think it the right way.
All the best... and if you find the missing dollar please forward it to me ..With thanks.

There is no other dollar.
Start with 5 Dollars...
$2 to the thief (I mean "bus boy")
$1 to a guy + $1 to another guy + $1 to the last guy

That's FIVE DOLLARS. NO extra $

I've heard this one before in elementary, but I have a riddle for you. A king is going to die soon, and takes his 3 sons into the cauldron. He says whoever can fill it with something for under 60 cents will get to keep the house. The first one buys sacks of rice, he doesn't suceed. The second son buys stacks of wheat, it doesn't work. The third one takes out 2 items and fills the room. What are the 2 items? Scroll down for answer.

A match and candle he filled the room, with light! Another from elementary.
