Peritonitis is the inflammation of the peritonium which is a lining in your abdominal cavity which surrounds most of your intestines and internal organs. It is usually caused by an infection. Gall stones are "stones" in your gallbladder or biliary tree. He could either have both which are totally unrelated or only thing I can think of that can answer you question regarding your brother is that probably he had gall stones which might have caused an obstruction and subsequest infection (cholangitis) in his gallbladder or biliary tree. Either the infection spread systemically (i.e. - sepsis) or due to the obstruction and infection causing his gallbladder to rupture and spread the infection into his abdominal cavity and peritoneum.

I am surprised that they could tell that your brother died from those things without doing an autopsy? Many people have gallstones and never even know it. and only about 20% of those ever have problems. It's only when they obstruct the bile duct that causes problems. A possible complication is that the gallbladder becomes inflamed causing Cholecystitis. and bile duct obstruction causing jaundice. If the bile is trapped in the duct it becomes concentrated and damages the gallbladder walls which is then followed by a bacterial infection of the stagnating bile. the gallbladder may fill with pus called empyema, if the duct or bladder burst peritonitis ( infection in the abdominal cavity) sets in and if not treated immediately can be fatal. Wait for the autopsy and then ask the Medical Examiner or Coroner to explain what exactly happened.

If you quite have bile duct blockage, I don't feel you are going to final three-6 months with out signs of stomach anguish and even jaundice (eyes and dermis turning yellow) relying on whether or not the ducts are thoroughly obstructed or now not. Some folks can haven't any signs in any respect. The anguish of bile duct blockage can also be very extreme. You can broaden cholangitis (fever, anguish and jaundice) that's an overly critical worry (illness because of stasis of bile while ducts are blocked). Go see a gastroenterologist.
