I bough a dress in a very cheap price it is very pretty but is dirty even though had a tag (so it was new) and has to be tailor a little bit, the tailor is going to be a little pricy but I can pay it, the problem is the cleaning part: the tag on the dress reads: No dry clean, spot clean only, so I would like to know if is ok to put on the washing machine on delicate cycle or do i need to go to a dry cleaners, i would like to do it myself because the cleaners are incredibly expensive. Any suggestions

This is your wedding gown. It's an important, delicate thing! You're doing the right thing by having it tailored, but you should be very careful with the cleaning as well. Many dry cleaning shops also offer tailoring and alterations. Seeing as how the dress will already be there getting tailored, they may clean it for you for a discounted price or even for free. If this is not something they offer, speak to your tailor (or a professional at the shop where you purchased your dress -- assuming it was a department, dress, or bridal shop and not a regular clothing store) and ask for safe, effective cleaning methods for the fabric your dress is made of. Satins, silks, and other fabrics bridal gowns are often made from are very fragile and do not respond well to many harsh cleaning products. Best to leave it in the hands of a professional. A few extra dollars for the cleaning will save you alot in the long run, considering you could easily ruin your dress by attempting to spot clean it on your own.

It is expensive to get your dress clean and it doesn't matter if was cleaned right after your wedding or a year down the road. If there are any stains I would have it dry cleaned. If there are grass stains on the bottom of the dress have it dry cleaned. The dirt that collects on the bottom of the dress by walking on a carpet or floor turns black so you would need to have that dress cleaned as well. After all of that above, you can sell the dress at 30%-40% of the retail price as that is the going price. I have new and gently worn dresses in my store that I have gotten from brides who have either changed their minds in getting married or brides who just want to have another way of selling their dress. When I accept the dresses I ask if it has been cleaned or how long has it been in the closet. You would be surprised at some of the answers I get but you would be more surprised at just how cleaners clean wedding dresses and then preserve them. Let's just say you are not getting your money's worth.........

if you can't even dry clean it, definitely do NOT put it in the washing machine...just to what the tag says.... SPOT CLEAN IT! If you take it to the cleaners they can spot clean it for ya....

Definitely take it to a cleaners and have it professionally cleaned.

I wouldn't try this at home!

Best wishes on your wedding and marriage!
