based on the sounds that she makes and how hard it is to wake her up i am assuming they are hellish and extremly vivid... often shakes while still having the nightmare and is usually a little disorientated after awaking.

maybe because she is too young to be away from her mother, they should not be weaned until about 10-15 weeks

Pup is probably not having "nightmares" but instead having a deep sleep and is content. In the old days we used to call it "chasing rabbits". The dog kicks and moans but is actually, in my opinon, just having a good sleep. However, you might try doing a bit more with the exercise program. Also, has the pup been checked by a vet? No worms, etc?

Puppies are very active during the day (I am sure you have noticed) and therefore tend to sleep very deep, which induces R.E.M. sleep. This is where dreams occur. they may not be nightmares, as puppies are not used to a lot of things in the big, new, world and do not understand everything they see. As your puppy gets older, and more used to its enviornment, it should be just fine.

The Dog Whisperer, both in his book and on the show, says a dog that is having "nightmeres" is a dog who is not getting enough exercise. Try travelling as a pack, getting the little girl tuckered out, and see if that helps.

Your puppy will grow out of it. My golden retriever just turned one on Monday. She used to have "doggie nightmares" all the time, but very rarely anymore. Does your pup mimic running and bark in her sleep? Mine used too.

You sure that it is nightmares and she's not wormy? They moan, jerk, kick, and cry out when they are wormy.Talk to the vet and get him to check it for worms. That is not normal behavior, you may want to call the person you bought him from to get some feed back.......

Your dog is in a deep sleep dreaming. Not night mares. In her dreams she is probably dreaming of running and playing, jumping and twisting, chasing something or what ever, but she has not had bad stuff happen to her yet to cause her to have night mares.

When our German Shepherd yipped and moved his paws during sleep, my dad would say 'he's dreaming he's chasing a rabbit'. I thought that was pretty funny, as he'd never seen a rabbit...

This is normal for pup and children also. Should grow out of it.
