A few times I found my kitten sleeping in her litter box ... ewwww! She has many favorite comfortable spots around the house; why would she sleep in there???

she obviously likes the texture. also, we must remember that litter box odor is not necessarily offensive to cats - they mark their territory with their urine and feces after all. your kitty may actually find the odor of the litter box comforting. but since cats are also fastidious clean animals, she will grow out of that behavior. just keep on moving her whenever you find her sleeping in the box. :) My kitten used to do that but has grown out of that silliness now.

The only time my cat does that is if she's uncomfortable with the people in the house. If you have alot of people coming in and walking around she might just be scared. The litter box is closed and safe and a spot she probably knows she can go to to be alone. Try socializing her or lessening the traffic in the house and she might just come out and play.

My cat never did that but I work for a shelter and most of the cats there will sit in there litterbox and fall asleep for a while. As for why they do it maybe since the cats are in a strange place its somthign familer to them if your kitten was just brought home

Did she live in a shelter before? Lots of times those kitties have nothing soft to lay on except the litter in their boxes.
Either way, she likes it because it's dark and smells like her.
