I wonder if believers have faith because of an experience of answered prayer.

Would you have faith if no prayer had ever been answered?

If they have, what prayers have been answered?

INCOGNITA: Where did you see the word "Christian" in my question? Are you claiming Christiainity has become polytheistic?

Believers decide that their prayers are answered because they WANT to believe. People are capable of imagining ANYTHING if the motivation is strong enough. The proof? None of their prayers are ACTUALLY answered, yet they continue to believe that they are.

I guess it depends on your faith. There are those who believe that even when prayers aren't answered, there is a God. I've heard people say, "I was praying, but just not asking for the right thing so that's why my prayers weren't answered."

There's also something to the way that we unconsiously set things up. If we WANT to believe in God and feel we need our prayers answered in order to believe, then we ask for things we know or are fairly certain will happen.

Whatever our reality is, whatever our belief about anything is, we want to be right. So, we look for evidence. This is true in everything - not just religion/faith.

But that's not what you asked. Personally, I believe I need to take responsibility for my own life. I don't believe that God exists to answer my prayers.

I think the answered prayers help.It definently makes me have more faith..Every prayer I have ever said was answered. The answer may not have been what I thought it would be or wanted but it was right and just.I have had many answered prayers and I DO NOT THINK IT IS POSSIBLE TO HAVE ALL THAT HAPPEN BY PURE COINCIDENCE.I have had prayers answered like..I needed my asthma medications and had no money.. i prayed the next day I got a free coupon for that medication in the mail. There has been soo many answered prayers.

Prayers are answered in due time. You have to realize that when you pray or ask for something it should be that which is according to God's will.

If you pray that somehow you win the lottery, I doubt God would let that coz it is motivated by greed...dont reason you want to help the poor, too much money will still lead to greed.

But God answers prayers in due time. I prayed to him that somehow, my husband who isnt studying the bible be able to see the goodness it brings....for 3 years and still praying...I was frustated most of the time but slowly things are changing....I can see God's answer little by little-

If you believe in a GOD then you believe that he answers your prayers in his way. Which most likely is not the answer the prayer was looking for. So if God answer some one it is their prospective if they were answered or not. Your Question has no real answer.

God answers prayers, the prayers that are answered are the prayers that are according to God's will. One needs to know before praying if the prayer of petition is according to God's will. God will answer it .

Probably not. I believe that the Holy Ghost witnesses to us, so that we may know the truthfulness of the gospel... if that never happened, then it would be hard to believe in anything.
Spiritual experiences are what we have to go on....faith, then the answers come to prayers.
I have prayed to know if the Book of Mormon is true. I have prayed to know if Joseph Smith saw what he claimed and really spoke to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I have prayed to know if families can really be eternal and if marriage can really last after death...
Every prayer has been answered with a comforting but firm "yes" in different ways.

I was going to say that I never had a prayer answered but I prayed for a healthy baby and I got one. I really don't claim that God answered that prayer and it does not affect my belief in God.

there are so many answered prayers. If i need help i pray. you must however have faith ie really know that God exists and you have to have that in place before you start praying. its called a leap of faith as youve got to believe first.

I might believe there is a God even tho he nevered answered any prayers of mine. Because I could have asked for wrong things--like zap my enemies, give me wealth, etc. But God does answer prayers--but those are between me and him.

Added: False gods don't and cannot answer prayers. That's why I believe in the Creator.

Definitely not. I went through a crisis of faith some time ago. If God had not taken a hand in the matter, I'd be an atheist right now.
