Can I get insurance with a provisional licence and road tax or would I have to learn in a friends car please.

If you are learning with a friend, that friend needs to be over 21 and been driving for over 3 years. You won't need road tax but they will. You will need to be added to their insurance policy as a learner. You must also drive with L plates.

Legally, yes, but as mentioned above, the friend will have to be over 21 and have been driving for three years.

If you buy and insure your own car it will be prohibitively expensive (could be up to £800 or more - ie potentially more than the car!) - far better to get insured on your mate's car instead, then think about buying once you've passed the test.

Tip: the Pass Plus 6-lesson course you can take after you've passed tends to hold weight with insurers too, as it teaches you things like night-driving, snow-driving and motorway-driving, so should make you a little more capable in the insurer's eyes.

You can get a friend to help you to learn to drive but they must be 21 or over and hold a full valid driving license for 3 years, they would probably need to be insured on your car aswell. Once you've bought a car you should be able to get insurance and definatley road tax. I think while your learning it could be cheaper to insure it under someone elses name and have you as a named driver.

Yes you can,
You can also be added onto someone elses insurance,
They must have held a full license for 3 years and be over 21.

I passed my test on December 15th.
Top tip, buy a Ford Ka They are the easiest cars to drive ever.
I passed 1st time with only 5 minors.

You cannot legally buy a vehicle and register it without a drivers license. You need to use your parents or friends car, and have a licensed driver in the car that has had 3-5 years driving experience(depending on your local DMV laws). You are covered by the owners insurance as long as the owner, or anyone named on the policy, is in the car with you. Now, on the other hand, you can buy a car, with cash, and have it put in your name, but you cannot insure it, nor can you register it in your name(title and registration are two different things). Good luck with that. My daughter is going through the same exact process you are. She bought a BMW, but cannot register or insure it till she gets her license, uless it is in my name.

the only problemyou mite have is that if your going to buy a car then some sellers who sell you the car wont let you take it away until you have a full licence and insurance. so go round a few dealers 1st and see what they say.
