I think we should see other people because
"No man (or woman) is an island."
Coz if we saw only ourselves we'd get bored. (Hopefully)
They are a real mine of information. As there is always someone worse off than ourself. By observing others we can learn so much about ourselves, as they often reproduce the kind of behaviour we see in ourselves.
We could be locked up if we talk to ourselves.
If we are vain, we need to be told how wonderful we are.
Your company is so boring that you could be used as an anaethetic.
We need to know what the current fashion is if we are not inventive enough to start our own.
