I will be going on business, and would like to get an idea if I should stay in the financial district, or somewhere else.

At night, the Financial District gets really dead--like a ghost town. Sure, some bars are open, but on the weekends at night it's dead. But you can always hop on a train and head further uptown where things are hopping more. Stay wherever its cheaper, and just take the subway around.

No, there is no nightlife in the financial district - it's pretty dead on the weekends and after business hours.

If you want to stay near the financial district since you'll be in NYC on business, I would recommend staying around Soho. The Soho Grand is very popular for business travelers in NYC - it has a great bar scene and you're just blocks away from great restaurants, etc. Soho is minutes from the financial district.

The financial district is downtown, and there is plenty going on downtown at night! Clubs, Chinatown, Little Italy, the Village, and all are easily reachable from the financial district.

If you're into the club scene, then maybe you would like to stay in the Chelsea to mid-town area. Many of the clubs are in that area. If you're into the jazz lounge scene, then the downtown (financial district) are is good.

Don't stay here. It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get a cab to or from here at night. Check out midtown because then you are centrally located!
