work? If so, do you do it by yourself, as part of a group, as part of a religious group, or what? Is it anonymous, or out in the open?

Basically, tell me about your charity work. Not necessarily what exactly you do, or how it made you feel, but how you got started, who - if any one you do it with, if it is religious in nature or not, etc.

I'm trying to increase my charity and just want to know generalities concerning your experiences.

Thanks Orest and Molly.
Yes, Molly, but I feel like I want to branch out and become more active in community charity work such as ... and that's where I get stuck. There are several things that come to mind, but I don't want to go by myself and most of the Sisters in my ward are busy with families of their own.

What you are talking about is expressing the love you have for God in your giving. The bible is very clear on this and states that you should give with a cheerful heart. It also states that you reap what you sow and when you give to God there is a manifest and multiple return on your giving. Our giving is an expression of our love for God and we should be led by God in our giving. Giving is not only with our money it also includes giving out of our time, effort, knowledge and resources. Having an encouraging word for another or being open and available for someone to talk to are both forms of giving as well. When someone is having a bad day are you the light of God for them and helping them to know that there is hope? When we are led by God in our giving we are pursuing the purpose of our creation and how God created each of us to express his will for our life and being a conduit for the perfect love that God has for us and in us to the rest of the world.

I commend you on your desire and recommend that you look for the areas in your life that are special to you and bring a sense of satisfaction. If you have identified your spiritual gifts that were given to you by the Holy Spirit at the time of your re-birth they are given to help you to accomplish the purpose of your creation. Since the great comission is all about loving your neighbor as ourself our gifts are a big part of how we are to give to others from God.

Charity as used in the King James Bible had a different meaning than it does now. Back in the day (1600s England) charity meant love. So the most important christian virtue is love. Sometimes that is worked out in modern charity, but that is not the only way.
I do charity work, as anonymously as possible. Sometimes it is religious, but not always. Basically I just look for ways to help people.

I see a Mormon temple!!! Sister, you know how to do Charity work. You have so many opportunties to serve in church related things. Work at the temple... I plan to do that very soon myself.

I am thinking also of volunteering at the ASPCA.

Praying for others IS service!!!! you know that!!!

Take care,

charity can be anything helpful to someone.
like mowing the yard for an elderly person, or picking up their mail for them.
money support, or anything. it would really just depend on what kind of charity you want to do.

me for example, i mow my neighbors yard, she is about 70 or more, and has parkinsens. i still get paid for the yard work, but she set the price she could afford. physically the job should pay more, but i know she can't afford any more, and i've tried to work for free, and she insists on paying, so i always let her decide how much to pay, it doesn't matter to me.
