Boy a bunch of holier than thou people out there today huh? Grandparents are doing the job because they love and care for their grandchildren. When a grown up does something wrong -IT ISNT THEIR PARENTS FAULT. So all you people can go to h... if you think every grandparent raising their grandchildren were terrible parents because its not true. Their kids are grown and make thier own mistakes whether its drugs, or alcohol or unemployment. Dont blame the parents. We are not talking about Grandma babysitting the children while mom and dad work thats different we are talking about them having the kids 24/7 and raising them because thier parents would not or could not do it.

They didn't teach their children how to be responsible. My aunt is the perfect example. Her daughter got pregnant at 15. My aunt raised her grandchild. My cousins son then got his girlfriend pregnant when he was 16. Now my aunt is raising her great-grandchild. I don't agree with it. I don't believe that it's a grandparents place to raise their grandchildren.
edit to add: As far as it just being "all young moms," that's a lie. My mother in law watched my kids a day or two a week when I was working, but nothing more. I had my first child at 17. I wasn't living with my parents and I still don't. I have never pawned my kids off on anyone. The grandparents that are raising their grandchildren ask for it pretty much. If you teach your child to be responsible for their actions, they won't do that.

Just my personal opinion...people are having children too young and don't have a clue what it takes to raise children properly.
I find it rather disturbing though that the grandparents (who raised the parents of the children we are talking about) are raising more children who will not be able to function as a parent...wow.

Because the parents don't want the responsibility of raising their own children, they get in the way of their social life. The grandparents figure if they don't take care of the grandchildren they can end up being taken away, or left to them selves and get into a lot of trouble.

There are many reasons. Sometimes parents abandon their children or not able to raise them on their own because they can't afford it. Some parents lose custody of their children.

I understand this completely, there is a 23-year-old mother I live with and she does not take care of her children at all! They run amuck! It's crazy she had these kids one after another, so her mom made her get her tubes tied after her 3rd. Because she knew that if she had another then she probably wouldn't care for it either. The oldest boy is a brat, because his 'nanny' spoils him to the extreme. He'll throw things at you and hits you and when you grab him to spank him his nanny goes crazy! It's kinda funny, when she leaves for work the kid goes nuts! I guess I don't really understand it because I never had grandparents...hmmm?

In many cases day care is way to high and both parents must work. Therefore, the grandparents are being a big huge help and taking care of their grandbabies.
