My cat has been a frontline customer for a year now, we apply the frontline every 6 weeks as prescribed by our vet. My cat is indoor/outdoor cat and I know she might be getting fleas from the outside and carrying them inside which is why we are religious about applying the medicine on time, cleaning every day and washing all the clothing every week. The frontline product has been working perfectly on her except for the last application (2 weeks ago), all of a sudden she has fleas and I see them walking on her. I want to clarify this particular application was in my car for a couple of weeks during summer which means it got really hot. I would like to know if there is a chance fleas are just getting resistant to the product or the heat somehow ruined it and that's why it isn't working, etc. Thanks

I suppose it is possible that the heat damaged the product, and that's why it didn't work: I would consult the vet to see whether heat exposure could make it ineffective. Apart from that, there would be 2 possible reasons why it didn't work. Firstly, as you suggested, the fleas in a particular area do become resistant to a particular product over time, though I'm not sure you would see such a huge and sudden change in the effectiveness like that. In this case, I would try an different product, such as stronghold or advocate. Finally, has your cat gained weight since the previous application. If so, more of the product would need to be applied.

It could be the heat, but the Frontline rep told us that the product is good for about 31 days so waiting 6 weeks is too long between applications. Also he told us that if you see more of the fleas after application it is because the medicine causes them to be hyperactive and will come to the surface more so that means it is working. You should really put the Frontline on once a month. Also the best way to get rid of the fleas is to treat your yard, your house, and the cat so that way you arent reinfesting the cat. Hopefully this info will help. If you have any other questions email me.

Well, one possibility is that it isn't real Frontline!

If you bought it at a vet practice that gets it directly from a manufacturer's rep, it's real. Otherwise it might not be.

Counterfeit Frontline, Advantage and Revolution have flooded the market in the past few years. Even legitimate retailers have been fooled into stocking and selling these fakes. Some just don't work, while others are downright dangerous and have killed many cats and dogs.
