My almost 3 1/2 year old daughter has been pee potty trained for almost a year now. Very few accidents, and hardly any night time accidents. She's a pro at it. HOWEVER, she will not poop on the potty. She did once, by accident..but never has again. She goes and gets a pull up and asks me to put it on her so that she can poop. She goes in the bathroom, shuts the door, and poops in the pull up. I tried not buying more pull ups, but she will hold her poop for 5-7 days, and then she is so miserable and sick, I cave in and go and buy more pull ups. HELP !! How can I help her to poop in the potty?

I had the same problem when I potty trained my first son. He would cry and scream when I tried to get him to poop in the toliet. He also held in his poop and he too, got sick for holding it in. This sounds so silly, but I had to sing a song/tell him a joke about his poop. I tried to make him laugh and try to get his mind off the situation. It worked for me. The sticker solution was also a good one that worked for him. He was always happy to add on another sticker after the bathroom use.

My brother did this when he was very little. He would hold it in until it made him ill. You need to start to get her out of wearing the pull ups. The people who manufacture Charmin TP have a cute little children'd book about potty training that my frind used to get her daugter to feel comfortable. Take away her pull ups before she goes into the Bathroom and tell her she cant leave until shee poos in the toilet. You can keep her entertained by reading a book on potty training geared for kids to make her feel more comfortable. Every time she does it properly you should have a reward for her. My friend gave her daughter a special piece of candy she could ONLY have when she used the potty for a BM. Always remember to praise her. Threatenig her will only frighten her more.

Here is an article that deals with your exact problem, I hoe it is helpful.

When I potty trained I used stickers. I put a sheet of paper in the bathroom and whenvever my children used the potty they put up a sticker, actually three for a bowel movement. Find a good reward system. Whatever will motivate her the most.

You might also ask if pooping scares her somehow? At three and 1/2 she should be able to tell you.

I had the same problem with my daughter. I bought a bunch of little "prizes" at the dollar store, put them in a box and showed her everyday adn told her you can pick whatever you want if you go poop in the potty. After a few days of seeing those toys she couldn't have she caved and went in the potty, a month later I didn't need to bribe her anymore!! Good luck.

We used the sticker systerm for out daughter, everytime she went to the potty she got one, and if she didn't she got them taken away or didn't get a sticker at all, when she got a certain amount, we would buy her a little prize....she no longer misses the stickers and does an excellent job! She thinks that she is really a big girl now, because she has "big girl underwear"

my nephew was the same.....my sister in law cut a hole out of the back of the pull up and put him on the toilet with the pullup on....she said it was very messy but once he did it and she jumped up and down with glee...he was so proud of himself that doing poop on the toilet was accomplished.....
i luckily had no problems with my kids toilet training but they say that poop is hard because of the dropping sensation and they are not used to it as they normally have their nappy/pullup to catch it....so to speak.
good luck.....and try to not be forceful with here....keep in mind....how many 30 year olds do you know that only do poop in pull ups....she will grow out of it....lol

Well maybe she has a phobia with sitting on the toliet to go take a dump. Maybe she's afriad of falling in. Have you tried holding her while she takes a dump? Maybe if your there with her and comfort her by telling her she'll be alright maybe she'll go on her own. And letting her hold her crap for 5-7 days is not right! Why didn't you take her to the doctor immedately?? She could have DIED! NEVER do that again!
