There is no new age parenting. That's just crazy. If you want to help yu need to talk to her because later on when that child is grown, they will do whatever they are big enough to do and that could be jail time.

All you can do is offer guidance without taking over or butting in too much. As you said, your daughter has a child. He isn't yours, so be a good Grandma, enjoy you grandchild, and unless she is endangering the child, be a good mom and back off a little.

Yes, welcome to the new age of parenting where the word "no" is never used and "time out" is the consequence for everything. It's also where being a parent is thrown out the window and it's all about being your child's friend.
