Hypothetical question here. If there was an all out legitimate war such as WWII, do you think that today's young men would volunteer as they did then? Back then there were 16 and 17 year olds getting fake ID's just so they could join and do their patriotic duty.

No because a LOT of the youth want things HANDED to them. They don't know what sacrifice means. They want everything NOW. It's hard to get some kids just to take out the garbage (why do I always have to do it?). I applaud the youth of today who DO want a stake in our country's future, and the freedom of others (US or otherwise) and are willing to do something about it instead of whining every time they have to do something unpleasant. If this offends some young kid, TOUGH. Deal with it.

Do you find it odd that there have been no "legitimate wars" since wars came equipped with news footage?

Is it possible so many people were able to be patriotic because they didn't see first-hand(ish) what was happening over there?

No, I don't think it would happen. Vietnam, the Gulf War, and now the war in Iraq have turned many Americans against war altogether.

Absolutly not, there would be a slight influx as we saw after 9/11 but the media has engrained such negitive connotations of our military and military service in general. Basically the liberal media has villified a very honorable profession.

I sure as hell would. I'm almost 15 now, an if WW3 were to happen the day I graduated high school. I'll be with a recruiter, right then an there. I doubt ww3 would happen in my lifetime, anyways. But I'm still joining the United States Military.

maybe, but definetly not as many as there were then, not amny care as much anymore. Our generation has had everything handed to us on a silver platter so we think we are entitled to things and that we'll always be taken care of. Not many of us have any sense of patriotism. Hell, we joke around during the playing of the national anthem. There's hardly any respect for men (or women) in uniform anymore.

Yes. There are still those who believe in America. There are plenty of 17 year olds enlisting now under the early enlistment program.

it would probably be a 60/40 split. 40 percent signing up, but I think a slight majority are too concerned with the "me" aspect, and the fear of dieing, especially if they have objections to the war, even if it involved their own country.

American liberals could suffer a nuclear attack on 5 major cities with over a million dead, and they would still sit on their hands begging for mercy. Or blaming Bush.

Millions of eligible US citizens say they "support" the war in Iraq, yet they don't join the military. There's your answer!

Do your research... most people waited to be drafted instead of enlisting with a Recruiter...
