There is not a single race or nation who was not once in thrall of another, if you go back far enough.
I'm native American, but I don't keep blaming people for what their ancestors did to mine.
People here bring up the crusades as a defense when certain Christian people get a little too uppity -- sort of a reminder that we are all sometimes blinded by our own beliefs.

Blame is a fruitless exercise. Why not move forward and be progressive. It is a beautiful thing that "blacks" have survived all of the racial bigotry and horrible things that have happened to us. The Native Americans almost got wiped off the continent and the Chinese Labor sources were worked almost to death also.
I am black but I blame people when they are personally biased because of race but not all white people. I am personally more appalled by Christian Evangelist types that shove religion down my throat.
And it is true there were some Africans did sell other Africans to Spain and the other importers of slaves.

Since when don't I do that hmm?
You want to know what happened to my family? My family never owned slaves before we came over from Germany. My family has been here over 300 years. And the American Civil War really did pit brother against brother in my family. Many of my family were so against what was going on (the hatred, prejudice, persecution, etc) that they actually left the United States to come to Canada where we didn't do things like that.
So how about you get off your high horse? I know exactly what happened with my family and slavery is no more acceptable than the murdering Crusades and Inquisition.

You live in the here and now. You personally have never been a slave and I have never owned any. The point is what happened in the past should stay there. It is okay to study the past and learn from it but to dwell there is only hurting yourself.
I am white and I have many black friends--just imagine if all black people felt like you? Noone would get along with anyone else.

The blame game, ah how I miss it. Blame who you wish but I am only responsible for my actions not those who just happened to have my skin colour 200 years ago.
And if I have no problems with the Germans and Japanese whose ancestors killed and tortured my ancestors I do not see why anyone should have problems with people who are guilty of nothing.
The difference is that slavery no longer exists, Facism no longer exists as practised by states, however Christianity does and claims to be innerrant!

Yeah ...what he said about the blame game!
Oh and hey there is no one stopping you from blaming who you see fit to blame.
My ancesters likely stole Aboriginal lands in Canada in order to settle here - with members of my family in residence in Canada since the 1600's I am sure they are not blameless though many married local women.
As for Chrsitians...the past such as the Crusades is over but needs to be brought up now and again...I blame modern Christians (mostly the white ones) for a lot of hatemongering. They are more hipocritical today I think than ever before in history. "Jesus loves you unless you are gay or black or jewish or muslim or catholic or protestant or purple"...what the hell kind of evil doctrine is that I ask you?

To echo Fourmorebeers - slavery no longer exists. No one continues to claim that slavery was the right thing to do. No one continues to say we should have slaves because it was done in the past.
However, people on this site FREQUENTLY use the KJV Bible quote "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" when responding to questions about Wicca or Paganism - questions that very rarely are directed at them. Yes, black people in American have it tough. But at least there isn't a passage in the Bible that people STILL use to justify calling for your death.
And, as others have mentioned, Africans sold Africans to the white man, so if you're going to point the finger at us, check out the four fingers pointing back at you.

I guess if we need to blame people, you could blame the Christians for keeping slaves as well. Also, don't forget what they did to the Native (non Christian) Americans.
Might be better, however, to try to teach people love and kindess than to spend generations blaming.

First, I am Puerto Rican so this is not a "white guy" coming at you, but it was your own people who rounded up those slave that were sold to those whites. It was the whites that wanted them, but it would not have happened if your own people did not help.

Because white people don't claim to be perfect. Christians claim their god is.
If so, why would the entire history of his followers be drenched in blood and violence?
One would think this perfect loving god would have corrected his followers.
But then again, that's me using logic to explain something to people who refuse to acknowledge it. But I do what I can.
