It doesn't matter what he expected, you did the right thing and it sounded like a very very wonderful first date. Personally I couldn't have asked for more or better. If you're happy with the way it went then you did right. If he wanted anything more, he'll wait for when the time is right for you.
God I wish I could get dates like that, maybe I'm an old romantic but I'm giving you a thumbs up for your first date.

OK time to tell all! secrets out! you sound young but generally lads,men want sex...if not their gay! wait too long the will go else were and get it!!! important to remember, scale of 1-4 gauge kissing pace and lenght and any signs of 1 to 3. In some cases 1 leads straight on to 234.

Well if he is like most guys he expected more, but I think you did the right thing by just giving him a kiss. If they get to much to fast then they just move on to the next challenge.
