I have an unmated female that laid 1 egg 5 days ago. I know she laid for her previous owner, so this is not her first egg. She shows no signs of distress or egg binding and has not started to sit on this lone egg.(I know they usually don't start that until 2-3 eggs have been laid) I've watched her carefully but I haven't been able to find any info on the possibility of a tiel just laying 1 egg. I'd love to hear from anyone that's had this happen with their tiel. I can tell from lack of online info that this uncommon. Just want to know if it's possible.

Since your tiel not mated, I just found out about the daylight hours for her, it needs to be lessened. It is winter now and and she needs less light. When spring and summer come if you don't want her laying she needs to have less daylight. The cycle will continue until you do something about it. I have an abandoned female tiel that lay ed her 6Th egg this morning. I know I must let her go through this cycle, and more dark hours for her to not become a habitual layer, it could be harmful/fatal for her to keep laying eggs. In the site listed go to the FAQ;s, this question is now on the top of the list. Nothing on the site can be copied so I hope you go there and the information helps you.

Cockatiels can be very strange birds. She might only be laying one egg at a time because there has been a change in her environment. Ask yourself the follwing question:

How long have you had her?
Have you moved her from one room to another recently?
Have you brought any other animals into the house recently?

If you have answered yes to questions 2 or 3, you need to give her time to adjust to her new surroundings.

I hope this information helped.

i had a cockatiel that did the same thing. the vet told me that it was almost like a false pregnancy with humans. they lay the eggs to get rid of them and then they feel the need to sit on them because that is what they are ment to do

I had a cockatiel that used to lay single eggs at a time. I just took them and threw them out. She never minded that I took them so that's what I would suggest.

I don't know why it happened though.

maximum eggs take 3 weeks to hatch, yours may basically be somewhat overdue. in case your nerve-racking about it tho ring your community avian vet. im particular theyd have the capacity to help, or atleast allow you to comprehend if there is honestly an concern.

Its just common enough to not be discussed. If you know its unfertalized it dosen't matter anyways, remove it before it spoils.
