Because of herniated discs in my lower back, I have been instructed to do hardly anything more than just lie down for about a month or two. This is particularly difficult for me because I'm only 18, and have to stay home from college because of the discs. I can't work, and I'm looking into taking online classes, but other than that I'm very limited as to what I can do. Are there any suggestions as to what I could to do help me get through this time?

Scrapbooking! Have your parents or a friend pick you up a blank scrapbook and some random craft items. You should have glue, string, markers, stickers, pictures, different shaped scissors, etc. Mix in a bunch of memorabilia--movie tickets, ribbons/small awards, programs, cards, etc. You can spend so many hours on scrapbooking...and it's so fun and easy to get addicted.
Plus, once you're done you'll have a great memory book!

Taking classes online is really a good idea. I'm in college right now and I am taking all my classes online...there is nothing wrong with me, it just gives me a little more time to do other things. As for what you can do while you're in bed, it really just depends on what you like to do, say for quiet time. I can give you some suggestions, however, that might help. You can read...anything really. Books, magazines, catalogs, cereal boxes, encyclopedias, or old letters. Watch TV or play games. If you have a laptop, surf the web. I'm sure that no matter what you do, you will get bored being in the bed that long, but hopefully I and the other people who have answered helped you at least a little bit. Good luck and get well soon.

i know what its like to be stuck for a long time with out being able to do much of anything except think.
take this time to really consider what your doing what your suppose to be doing how your doing where your going how to get there will you get there how do you know that is the spot you suppose to end up at . what are you suppose to believe .
all of this and much more .
you have a chance that comes to few and hopefully comes just once in a life time. its not bad its good this is the point in the walk through life that the trail maker says you have to sit on the bench for 2 months why because you have lots of important thinking to do. lots of things to learn and you have to figure out why your learning what you do. that is what i did .
that and sometimes i would have people over with dvd's and although i was laid out on the couch i treated it much the same as any other dvd fun time.
i didnt read the bible from cover to cover then in part because i was on some pain killers that left me feeling like well they impaired my thinking. but i did think about God and prayed and wondered and asked all the stuff i mentioned and more .
really not many people get this lucky i know you are saying lucky this guy is nuts . no i mean lucky a big stop sign in life and it
isnt the one everyone gets to see saying dead.
so use this as a time for thought let you mind really go sometimes slow it down . i know how to meditate i went to TM
but you could have someone who knows how to do that come over and teach you . its a wonderfull thing to know how to do and
although i dont do it often at all knowing its there is great .
knowing that racing thoughts getting all wound up about what in hte end is meaningless stuff no good . meditation is like a gaint brake you can put on when ever your life is just spinning .
some books do teach meditation .
another important thing to do is to keep the rest of you from becoming weak . you can do that by tightening your muscles say in one arm and then the other and legs and so on all can be done with out moving . in high school public and high school everyone thought i was a wieght lifter but i never was i just did this i think its called isometricks what ever just tighten as hard as you can as long as you can once or twice a day and you will be much better off when you can get up and re join the rat race.

I'm 19, and I'd feel as frustrated as you probably do if I was in that situation. Read books, get every new issue of magazines that come out (I'm a magazine junkie), talk on the phone, go on yahoo answers, myspace, AOL, learn a new language, think of how lucky you were to be able to walk around not too long ago and decide to never take such a blessing for granted... Everyone takes it for granted. As a matter of fact, I'm going to go skip around and thank God that I can walk.

You could learn a language... there are those CD sets you can get like "Learn to Speak Spanish" or French, Italian, Arabic, whatever. Listen and learn!

A laptop has got to be a necessity as well. If nothing else, you can rack up points on Yahoo Answers by responding to people's questions all day!

Reade a book, watch the tv, find DVD box sets of your favorite show, learn a new craft, have a bed party. Invite friends over to chill with you and watch a movie, talk or just hang out.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you

How about writting a book? You have the time and can use your imagination to write just about anything you like. Some great authors wrote while in bed and sick. This occupation takes your mind off your other problems

I had to do this last year. Read a lot. Watched some TV. Did some internet stuff on my laptop. You could do other things too. Learn to knit or crochet or draw or write stories.

Wireless internet and a laptop, babybee! Online classes is good too. Catch up on movies you always wanted to see but didn't. Journal and set goals. Meditate.

When I was bedridden, I learned how to knit and crochet. I made some nice things--and of course, some awful things at the beginning.

I still use the afghan I crocheted.
