What kinds of problems will my baby have if I drink pop?

Your baby will not have any problems if you drink pop while pregnant. UNLESS you drink tons and tons of soda, then you might have something to worry about. A can of coke a day or even twice a day is perfectly fine. The only rule to caffeinated beverages while pregnant is to have them in moderation.

The issue with soda is the caffeine, as most of the other people have said. The caffeine is proven to cross the placenta, so it does actually reach your child. The issue is that babies can't metabolize caffeine like we can, so there are theories that it may be detrimental, and some studies have linked caffeine to miscarriage in the first trimester. That said, most doctors now say that you can have caffeine in moderation. 300 mgs is considered fine by most. That means approx. 3 cups of coffee, 6 cola type sodas, or 8 teas. Remember, chocolate also has caffeine! As far as problems, if you regularly exceed the 300 mgs a day, some studies have shown low birth weight and genetic defects.

Hope that helps!

I drink a lot of Diet Coke and stopped during pregnancy. They say both Nutrasweet and a limited amount of caffeine are okay during pregnancy but I have my doubts about the long-term safety of Nutrasweet.

I drank Club Soda with lime from a can to get that, "Ah" feeling of cracking open a pop. Or drink an occasional 7-Up - it's all natural now.

I drank pop throughout this pregnancy and still am--I'm 38 weeks and baby is fine!! I try to drink caffeine-free drinks but I've never heard of the baby having any problems--hiccups maybe!! lol You'll be fine, just drink pop in moderation.

It's reccomended that you avoid soda during pregnancy because it contains caffeine. Too much of anything can cause your unborn baby harm. If you are a person that really likes to drink soda keep it to a minimum and stay away from dark sodas like Pepsi and Coke. The lighter sodas are better to drink, except Mountain Dew which probably has more caffeine in it than Pepsi and Coke together.

No your baby will not be sick but for your own health try to drink water and juice. Gestational diabetes could be a problem and drinking stuff with lots of sugar including some juices will make it worse. Moderation is the key and eating healthy is good not only for you but for baby. Good luck with your baby!!

~DEHYDRATION! You'll drink pop instead of water and not even know you're dehydrated.
They are finding all kinds of things that are bad for you with sodas. Weight gain, artificial sweeteners, sugar etc. I don't think carbonation is good for baby either.
I was a soda drinker too, but when my doctor told me I was dehydrated, I started drinking water all the time. I carried it with me everywhere I went. I bought it 3-5 gallons at a time.
My baby's completion was perfect.
I hope you do the same thing. If you drink enough water, you won't be thirsty for pop as much. Don't forget to drink milk too.~

I seriously doubt the baby could get sick from you drinking pop. But its always good to have as little as possible.

It's the sugar and caffeine in the soda. My mother only drank Dr pepper and I think I'm okay. When I was pregnant with my last son, soda made me sick so I didn't drink it. Ask your doctor!
