A Godfather is more of an honorary role today. In the past the Godfather (or was it both Godparents?) named the child, chose the Christian name. I believe you will be invited, but not required, to attend a Baptism class. Basically the Godparents promise to help the parents raise the child, particularly help raise the child according to the Catholic faith.
During the ceremony all in attendance will repeat the Baptismal promises. The Priest or Deacon will sprinkle oil and water on the baby's head. Then the parents commonly host a party or luncheon. It is expected that the Godparents give the child a gift. Money is common. I might suggest something more spiritual or sentimental. If the child is named after a saint, maybe that saint's medal? Other suggestions include a children's bible or a cross or crucifix to hang in his or her room.
Congrats.

Attend at the baptising/christening ceremony. Remember to send cards on birthdays etc. A godparents role is defined as , should the child be orphaned, you would undertake to care for it, and bring it up in the faith you professed at the baptismal ceremony. Basically just bung the child a few quid now and then. Thats all anyone does these days.

As a godfather, you are to support and aid the parents of the child as they raise the child in the Catholic faith.
In practical terms, keep in contact with the child as he or she grows up, talk to the child about God as the child grows up, be there for the child's First Eucharist, send a birthday card that has a blessing in it, etc.

you were chosen to be a godfather coz the parents of that child believes that you can be good example, and be a second parent to that child.
you're a catholic, so you should know/ have idea of the christening ceremony.
my friend used to say that if you are asked to be a godparent, it's a blessing.

It depends on the parish where the child is going to be baptized. Talk to the parents of the child and see if you need to attend a class. Some parishes have classes, others do not. I am a godmother twice. Once I had to attend a class, the other time I didn't.

i'm a god parent to two kids. both times, i had to attend the god parent class.
i usually give a bond as a gift to be used for their college education.
basically your job is to be involved in the raising of this child in the faith. more broadly, you have to be involved with the child. being a good example for the child on how to live in society and how to treat others... you support the parents where you can. being emotionally available to them especially when they are teens and they can't talk to their parents as easily.
as for me, i'll even go so far as taking the responsibilities on if they were ever to loose their parents.
it's not about this, but ... giving gifts at every holiday!
mine are 11 and 2

you're already a Christian in case you believe that Christ is the Lord and function been baptized interior the call of the daddy and of the Son and of the holy Spirit (it is how the Catholics do it). you go with education, as a results of fact you do no longer seem to appreciate something. call a interior of sight Catholic Church and ask approximately signing up for RCIA (ceremony of Christian Initiation for Adults. you would be waiting to ask all your questions and get genuine solutions.

You need to be in good standing with your parish.
Assuming you are, you need to go to your parish priest and get a letter to that effect that you can present to the priest that is performing the baptism.
The priest may ask that you attend a pre-baptism class as well.

Teach the baby about God, after all, even the title "GODfather" tells you the greatest treasure you could give him/her.
