he's been talking about going to see that movie black christmas, which by the way looks ridiculous... but i don't care i just want to spend time with him. but i feel like if i ask him, i should pay. just wanted a cute way to ask to see him... even if we just stay home...

You should not have to ask to go to the movies. He is your boyfriend he should offer.

It's usually easier to have a plan. Give him a couple of different options and different days (just in case he already has plans on a certain day). If you ask him to the movie, you should pay unless he offers. As far as not smothering him, if he feels the same way about you as you feel about him, he won't mind doing something with you, even if it is sitting around the house.
