I'm looking at buying either a Focus ST with the 2.3L (150hp) and performance suspension or the Saturn Ion with the performance pachage 2.4L (175hp), performance suspension etc... They are within 1/2 second of each other in 0-60 time. Which would you pick and why?

I had a Focus and and no problems with it. It was a very good and reliable car. Although the Saturn does come with a great warranty.

Obviously you are looking for speed and performance not reliability and economic sense.

Good luck in your decision making.

Neither could be my first determination, yet i could circulate with a concentration over an Ion. The Ion is gruesome interior and out, the middle-fastened gauges are tricky to get used to, the steerage (electric powered skill steerage) is twitchy and unnerving. on the plus area: sturdy engine, very tight turn radius, and the rear suicide door on the coupe is a neat function that must be somewhat clever (the door aperture with the two doors open is bigger than maximum coupes, and all 4-doors). the concentration isn't as superb in its positives or negatives. it quite is the shortcoming of negatives that get my vote. additionally the reality which you will get it in wagon and hatch form.

Buy a pos and race it into the ground. When you have that out of your system, buy a Honda Civic.
