No, it's just your brain is getting a thrill out of scaring itself and you're letting your thoughts go there. Stop thinking about it, ignore it, and it'll go away. The more you think about it, the strong it becomes. Stop yourself, and divert your thoughts to something else.

well, basically, yes, everything going wrong within your mind is caused by a mental thing, but it doesn't necessary mean that you have a mental problem.
One thing about human mind is that it can record memories and flashes can appear over time, thus a layer (scary picture) can be "projected" on anything (room walls, whatever) whenever the respective memory is activated.

The treatment for this is not watching the same sort of things again and trying to replace them with some others, funny ones or relaxing ones. LIght also helpes at the begining (this state is oftently encountered with kids, how old are you?) so keep the room lighted so your memory cannot "play" with you, how about that?

Yes, it's a mental thing. Quit going to scary websites and go to a funny one, or watch an interesting, NOT SCARY movie. The more you distract yourself from thinking about the scary stuff, the quicker you'll forget it and not feel jumpy.

P.S. I'm an middle-aged, sensible, mom and I got like that after watching The Sixth Sense. Took me a week to be able to walk next to a bed without thinking something was going to grab me. :)
