Hey, you have to give the know-it-all teens this: they've found a way to live rent-free and they don't have to work for a living!
I have a 14-year-old daughter, and sometimes I grit my teeth over her supposition of superior knowledge. But I know this is the pay-back for the grief I gave my parents when I was a teen. So I try to stifle the knee-jerk reactions I have to her attitude, and do the right thing. Which is to teach her that when she delivers her know-it-all precepts, she has to do so with courtesy: i.e., no snotty tone of voice, no interrupting, no yelling, no name-calling. And that if she expects us to listen with patience and understanding to her, she has to do the same for us. That it's okay to disagree and discuss, but not to be mean or rude.
Also to teach her some elements of compassion: when we think someone is doing something really stupid, there may be reasons for what they are doing that we don't know. That it's wrong to judge other people harshly or vindictively, unless we want other people to do the same for us.
We all know there is light at the end of the know-it-all teen tunnel, because we all got through it ourselves when we grew up, and some of us even found understanding that a lot of the people who we thought were idiots when we were teens, including our parents, actually were a lot sharper than we thought they were.
So grit your teeth and let your teens assume they know it all, but require that they tell you about it with courtesy and compassion. That's about all you can do.
That and hit 'em over the head with the ever-popular "Just wait until you have kids of your own, then you'll feel different!" ;-))

Not every parent lets their child leave after becoming a teenager. A lot of people tend to realize that in order to move out to a nice place, and live a fabulous life; one must attend college and get a job.

A better question is why do so many people think all teenagers are like this? I'm not and my sister isn't; we never have been. It all depends on the teenager, their environment, and if they can see that the world does not revolve around them and they are, in fact, part of a much larger picture.
So, to answer your question; teenagers DON'T know everything and they KNOW they don't and they know they would have one heck of a time out in the real world when they can still be living with Mom and Dad. Why would they want to move out so soon anyways? And why would you want them too?

I don't know. I wish SOMEONE knew. Why is it that when they discover that they're all ten feet tall, invisible and bullet-proof that they don't all become super heros and save the world?
In fact, why didn't I save the world when I was a teenager? Oh, well, I guess I was just too busy trying to prove to my best friend, Vicky that Tommy was WAY cuter than Kenny. I had my priorities, you know.

Statements belittling parents is one of the reasons most teens do not respect their parents or appreciate their wisdom. My teen son knew everything and wouldn't listen to me and now he's living with a friend of his and his mother and he has no job, no money, no nothing. I wanted him to go to school, attend college, join the military or job corps, and have a successful career. MY suggestions were the better choices.

great plan, best you get started, but remember , no help from ignorant parents this is your goal and need to do this on your own to prove its worth. I would love to hear of your adventure, perhaps start a yahoo blog and keep us advised, as I know of several teenagers who would love your sage advise

good day, I undergo in concepts being a teen and that i assumed I knew each and every thing - so now i'm an man or woman i anticipate that the present crop of young children are basically as smug, pig-headed, and ignorant, as i became many years in the past!

Teenagers are like that, I don't think such sarcastic remarks will solve anything. What you have to do is be patient and show him the truth. After all, if you decided to have to have kids, you'll fatally have teens.
