I am trying to eat healthier for the new year- my blood pressure is extremely high, and I want to be healthier for myself and my girlfriend.

I like those mini tomatoes, sometimes called 'Cherry' or 'grape' tomatoes. However, I am not used to eating fresh vegetables nor fruit. After eating the tomatoes, my stomach hurts. Why is this? Is it because of pesticide residues, and/or perhaps infinitessimal amounts of insect feces?

How can I avoid these stomach pains? I washed the tomatoes first, but evidently that wasn't enough.

Any suggestions would be fantastic. Thanks.

If you're eating too many of them (especially by themselves) the acid will be playing up with your stomach. Try combining them with less acidic foods. If you've been eating a lot of processed foods your stomach may initially struggle with the healthier foods but it shouldn't take long for it to adjust and for you to feel much better for it.

Good luck with the lifestyle change.

Because tomatoes are acidic in nature, they will do a number on anyone's stomach should they eat too much of them. I couldn't sleep an entire night because I ate pizza with extra sauce and a tangerine to follow it. Only thing I can recommend is not to eat too many, or take an antiacid afterward. Any fruit (tomatoes are really a fruit) with a high vitamin C (ascorbic acid) content is naturally acidic.

Stomach was kicking my ****!

yep, its probably the grapes. fruit tends to have more natural fiber than other foods which is one thing that can make you go more. Another is that a lot of fruits (like grapes) have a very high water content, so if you are filling up on grapes you aren't really eating as much solid food as you think you are. Fruit also tends to have a lot of natural sugar, so eating mostly fruit for a day or so is actually a much more drastic change to your diet than you would think. All of these things can mess with your regularity.

Tomatoes are highly acidic. I like raw tomatoes and cooked, but my tummy doesn't. I have to take Pepcid OTC everyday so I can eat.

It may be the acid in them. Try yellow tomatoes..they have less acid.

maybe theyre a little too acicdic for you??? as long as you washed them real good, it may just be that they are too harsh for your stomache. try grilling them on toast or in another recipie.
