I was in Thailand a few years ago and met some peope that were doing a round the world trip in a year. The budget then was about £7000 - obviously living on a showstring budget, but what better way to experience real people and cultures? STA travel (www.statravel.com) do some really good tailor made round the world flights, where you can have quite a lot of stops for a long time at a reasonable price. Also, you could look at www.globalfreeloaders.com - some of my friends have had some great visits in European cities with free accommodation becasue of this website - but please follow all safety advice!
