Hi there...many of the commercially available cat food products such as Science Diet, Purina, IAMs sold in supermarkets and pet stores contain corn, corn meal which ferment as it broken down within the digestive system leading to very stinky poo. Feeding human food as treats also can contribute to smelly poo as well. However, this also depends on the animal's genetics as well. Like humans, when two people eat the very same thing one person's business may stink to high heaven moreso than another (we can't compare our own poo since we'd obviously be biased.) I have two cats who's genetic makeup are quite different from one another (F1 Bengal --1/2 wild & 1/2 domestic -- and Abyssinian). They both eat the same identical high premium quality foods yet the Bengal's poo is so strong it would make a good substitute for chloroform, where the Aby's isn't so bad and is very tolerable.

Some of the high protein cat foods (which contains no corn based products or byproducts) found only at specialty pet stores such as Innova EVO, Life's Abundance, Nature's Variety Prairie may help minimize the stinky calling cards, but again it truly depends on the cat's genetic makeup. They are quite expensive compared to the supermarket brands, but if your intended goal is to lower the overall gas chamber effect you may need to experiment which works best.

My cat's poo also smells terrible... its funny becuase the other cat's poop doesntl smell even 1/4 that bad! I noticed though that if I feed a higher quality more expensive wet food like Eukenuba, his poop doesn't stink as bad - but still stinks! I guess it has to do with the cat's metabolsm - I don;t know. Both my cats are indoor cats and they have 2 litter trays. I've experimented with different types of cat litter and found that poop odor control can be achieved by the following:

1) use clumping litter - I use either Fresh Step or P-Pod fiber (this is really excellent in controlling the odor)

2) no matter how good the litter is, you need to get rid of the poop from the litter box right away - don't let it sit there for hours at a time.

there are a few things that you could do. 1 buy the bags that go into the litter pan, 2 use baking soda in the bag before you put in the litter, 3 buy the Tidy Cat litter for Multiple cats (it has an ingredient in it to get rid of Oder) 4 change the pan every 3 to 4 days unless the Oder subsides then got to every week!

Feed your pets a quality cat food...always the same one. No table scraps. You should see a marked improvement in a few days.
Beyond that, use quality litter with deoderant and a lid over the tray. We have two cats and never smell a thing.

I reccomend using clumping litter. This kind clumps over the poo's and locks in the stink. It's also easier for the cat to bury their messes in.

Buy a "heavy duty" sand for cats and open the window for 10 minutes each day.

get rid of the litter tray and let them go do their business outside. cats like to bury their poo so it's not like they foul the streets like dogs. of course i know this depends on where you live.
