I have a boy cat and we've had him since the end of the Summertime. Just recently, he started meowing alot and won't stop and trys to get outside. We let him outside, but he just walks around meowing loudly. My mom says he has been "spraying" places in the house also. What exactly is "spraying"? And What is my cat trying to tell me. Thanx in advance!

He's sensing a female in heat. I strongly reccomend getting him fixed, after that, he should stop meowling and spraying. Spraying is when a male cat urinates in a certain area outside the litterbox. This is done in the wild to claim territory. He's simply declaring what's "his". Once he's been fixed, spraying will stop.

1. My first guess would be that your cat is not neutered. I recommend that you make an appointment with the vet for this safe and simple operation right away. It will save you a lot of grief.
2. Second guess. Perhaps he is neutered but they did not do a complete job of it. Have the vet check him.
3. Third guess. He was neutered properly, but it was done after he reached maturity. In this case you may have a life-long problem every time a female cat comes into heat within a mile or so of your home.

Your male cat is catching the scent of a female in heat. He is meowing caling for her and advertising his presence. His spraying (peeing against vertical surfaces while standing up) is connected to this - he is advertising his presence and marking his territory. This behavior (the meowing all night) and sprayng will NOT stop unless you have the cat neutered (de-sexed). It is a relatively simple procedure. Take your cat to the vet and have him neutered ASAP.

Hi there...cats who reach sexual maturing yearn to roam outdoors so they can mate. Urine spraying is a territorial behaviour which is common among cats to let others who are competition know that this is my turf by spraying urine in their territory. Neutering is the only way to stop urine spraying behaviours which should be done as soon as possible so to prevent this from becoming habitual which harder to stop even after neutering.

Most shelters will perform low fee or free (to qualifying low income participants) neuters. USA residents can ring 1-800 SPAY USA http://spayusa.org to locate a nearby shelter to schedule an appointment.

Your cat is trying to tell you that in needs to mate. The cat is horny for Christ sake! Either sterilize the poor cat or find a female cat to mate with yours. Spraying is what male cats do when they want to have sex!

He needs to be fixed. He is trying to hook up with the lady kitties. Spraying is essentially marking their territory with urine and if you don't get him fixed now, it will only get worse.

I wants some "female attention." He is spraying to mark his territory. It's kinda like pee, but smells worse. You need to get him fixed quick. so he doesn't keep spraying... like my kitty :(
